The subject of this diploma project is the restruction of 4 blocks, located in the border of the residential zone of Botanikos, through the construction of housing buildings and the redefinition of the character of this area.
The interest of this project relates to the intervention in the urban zone along the boundary of the post-industrial area of Eleonas, at the point of the transition from fully structured and urban area to the sprawl of the industrial zone.
Area Map
The suggested solution is located at Botanikos, and more specifically, at the residential area that projects the characteristics of the intermediate zone. The main target of this project is to remodel the blocks through filling the urban blanks and designing public open spaces and pathways organised in a net, as well as to maintaine the multi-functionality of the area and stimulate the presence of small productive units that traditionally exist there. That goal was accomplished through placing small workshops at the ground floor of the new buildings.
In order to design the main housing blocks, it was necessary to create two constructive systems that represent the different nature of the functions that are installed. The two systems also contributed to the standardization and prefabrication of the construction.

The standardization of the constructive system also leads to the creation of a typology for the apartments. There are five types of houses. Alternative choices have been provided for each one of these types, in order to fulfill the variety of needs.
