At this column entitled «ArchiTRAVELING» ArchiTeam aims to analyze the theme of 'Architectural Tourism'.

Through texts of invited writers, ArchiTeam members, and a series of interviews with architects, artists, politicians, journalists and critics on:

- the importance of architectural tourism,
- the importance of traveling for architects in particular, andhumans in general,
- the added value that architecture creates within a city
- Architecture and Politics

and a series of presentations of the architecture travels destinations of ArchiTravel.

It is human nature to want to travel and search. The meaning of a journey, combined with the natural need for a vacation, constitutes a great deal of every day thought and is basically the dream of every person.

In 2002, as architecture students having felt the need to acquire new visual stimuli and to study in situ the buildings which we learnt about from the bibliography, we organized the first architectural trip to Berlin. Many other places were visited around the world with the participation of many colleagues and many friends (as we happily realized).

People who had no relation to architecture came to visit the commercial sights of every destination.
Walking through the city and strolling through some of the most remarkable architectural structures, they acquired a new sense of "beauty" and functionary meaning which is so absent of Greek cities.

The purpose of a journey is to discover places through their buildings and architecture. It's a discovery which happens whilst strolling through the city and experiencing the reality, not just through the commentaries of tourist guides.

Above all, it's about a group of friends who travel together, not to reach a specific destination, but to enjoy every trip and return with enriched real experiences.

ArchiTravel was founded in 2008, during a trip, giving the traveling group new form and entity. The fundamental purpose of the website www.architravel.com is to gather information and experiences from the past travels thus creating an electronic Architectural City Guide.

Through texts, pictures and maps, the most significant architectural buildings will be described, and there will be recommended "architectural journeys".
Parallel to this, members will be fully informed about the latest (travel) excursions organized by ArchiTravel and the possibility to take part in them.

The world of ArchiTravel gives the opportunity to experience the cities like no other travel guide will ever be able to do.

The creation of DestiNations website is an attempt to share ArchiTravel's unique travel moments and experiences with the rest of the world. This will be our and the travelers point of view of each travel that is completed.
