From Germany to Argentina
German Influences in Architecture. (until 05 June 2011)
Over the centuries Argentina's building tradition was repeatedly inspired by European immigrants. The exhibition explores the influence that architects and engineers of German decent wielded on the Rio de la Plata region, which includes the capital Buenos Aires.
In this context, the work of Willi Ludewig (1902-1963), who emigrated from Berlin in 1935, played an outstanding role. Willi Ludewig is one of the most important protagonists of the spread of architectural Modernism, especially in the Brandenburg region. In his buildings elements of Neues Bauen were transported to Argentina.
The exhibition was conceived by CEDODAL (Centro de Documentación de Arte y Arquitectura Latinoamericana), Buenos Aires, and showcases original drafts and image material from its extensive collection. These documents are rounded out by films about Buenos Aires in the 1920s and today, as well as by an interview with one of Willi Ludewig's sons.
