Installation by Christina Papageorgiou in the framework of the film ‘'Iphigenia at A... ‘' by Wlodzimierz Staniewski. (15 - 27/10/2011)
In 2008,the sculpture- architect Christina Papageorgiou followed the ancient trail heading towords the Corykeion Cave, documenting an artistic expendition organized by the internationally famous Polish director Wlodzimierz Staniewski. According to research and mythology, Corykeion Cave was sacred to the Nymphs and the place of worship for Pan.
The installation presented by Christina Papageorgiou is a journey in time and space. Maps, photographs, clay imprints of the local plants and seeds, shoe traces from the contemporary pilgrims, sound materials and drawings from the actual happening, compose a palimpsest where the collective experience is imprinted. It is about a work on distinct phases, which explores the transformations of an ancient ritual of rebirth and death.
The official opening is on Saturday, 15th October at 20.00 and will be followed by the film ‘'Iphigenia at A... ‘' by the Polish director Wlodzimierz Staniewski that was filmed during the project.
