Nikos Salingaros speaks at the Athens Dialogues
Life and the Geometry of the Environment
"Life and the Geometry of the Environment" (presented at the "Quality of Life" session of the Athens Dialogues -- An International Conference on Culture & Civilization, The Onassis Foundation, Athens, Greece). Certain very specific geometrical properties of the natural and built environments exert a positive, uplifting effect upon our organism. A mechanistic worldview negates the complex mathematical properties of nature, and in so doing it reduces nature and detaches human beings from the biosphere. Re-orienting our worldview means rediscovering the biological connection between humans and their sensory space.
