Residential /commercial building in Volos city

Architectural synthesis II - (4th semester)

Ιt is right opposite the university library building. Other significant buildings nearby are Giorgio de Chirico contemporary art center, municipal school of music and the town hall. Usage reinforcement of public space inside as well as outside of the building is a central axis of the project. The space outside the university library has been turned into a youth meeting point as well as a place where entertainment and cultural happenings occur. We propose the reinforcement of this space public usage according to a previous municipal urban plan (university square). Extension of public usage space is also proposed for the building inside with the creation of glass surrounded lounge and a small cinema at the second level with independent access to the visitors. Significant point of the project is the usage of Borel st. facade balconies as corridors, leading to a third public space. In the ground level there is unobstructed view to the north where the metamorphosis church is located and to the seaside south.
