alterMALL Competition
Architectural competition for the design of a closed public space. (Registration until 10 April 2012)
Architectural competition about a design a closed public space - mall is organized by the international platform for architectural competitions OPENGAP. The competition aims to design a public leisure space, which responds to the present social needs, integrated in an urban site.
The most interesting of the competition is that each participation team chooses the location of the project. However, it is necessary to justify the choice of the location and connect the proposed area with the project. The competition is open to architects, designers and students of architecture, in teams until five participants.
The creation of malls is today integrated part of urban lifestyle, consisting an alternative public space- leisure space. However, today, malls seem to reflect a negative aspect of public spaces, while they propose consumerism as way of spending leisure time. That's why the main purpose of the competition is to suggest alternative "centers"- public spaces, which will not only contain the protection from external conditions as a design factor but also create a dialog with the present social needs of the area.
