Atlanta History Center Competition
The Atlanta History Center trying to come up with the international contemporary developments announced a competition with an overall vision to recreate the visitor experience. (Registration Deadline: July 18, 2011)
The Atlanta History Center has reached a pivotal point in its evolution. In the less than two decades since its museum opened, the world around it has catapulted forward. When the Atlanta History Museum opened in 1993, the internet was in its infancy. Atlanta was preparing for the Olympic Games. Pay phones were still standard fixture in public spaces, and roughly 1,000,000 fewer people called Atlanta home.
In less than two decades, Atlanta's skyline has changed. Its population has grown, and its people interact with one another and the world in ways many could not imagine in 1993.
Now, the time has come for the Atlanta History Museum to make its own leap forward and to secure new footing as the link between Atlanta's past, present, and future. As such, the facility is seeking a physical transformation that will create a form suited to its timeless function. The Atlanta History Center seeks to re-shape its museum, to design a space that underscores the continuity between yesterday and today.
In 2010, The Atlanta History Center initiated this transformation, developing a conceptual master plan for the Atlanta History Museum.
The overall vision is to recreate the visitor experience at the Atlanta History Center. The plans include reshaping the museum, redesigning a permanent exhibit and reconstructing the entrance and grounds.
