City of Dreams Pavilion

The Emerging New York Architects Committee (ENYA), in cooperation with the Structural Engineers Association of New York (SEAoNY) are organizing architectural competition for the construction of a small pavilion in Governors Island, with title " City of Dreams Pavilion".

The "City of Dreams Pavilion" is going to be a gathering place. The pavilion has to offer a variety of activities such as information and exhibitions for arts programs, exhibitions, lectures. The main idea is the creations of a pavilion which refers to the city of dreams. In other words it is an attempt to refer to the city of future.

The contemporary situations of large urban centers, the ecological themes which are evoked, create thoughts for the direction of the architecture in the future but also for the evolution of cities. Part of this competition is to suggest new ideas and a new way of   thinking so that architecture responds to a sustainable development.

The competition is going to be realized in two stages. During the stages the participations will be chosen by the eight members Jury of architects and industrial professionals. The chosen participations of the first phase will have the ability to revise and send their proposals, so that the final winner will be chosen in august 2012. Basic criteria for the choice of proposals are the construction flexibility and the most economical and ecological as far as possible construction. The choice of recycling materials is necessary with the aim of aggravating the surrounding area and making the construction procedure easier. So final purpose of the competition is to create a pavilion with zero energy demands.

The proposals will be submitted until 1st may 2012 through Internet.
