Μodel Εducational Unit in Kozani

The dominant intention of this project is the creation of a model educational unit. A pleasant and safe environment which will enhance students' knowledge and creativity. A contemporary building in a model cluster of houses with minimal aesthetic, and absence of ornaments and impermanent impressive elements. The basic compositional idea of the architectural design is the creation of an independent unit, which will be also able to interact with the environment around it.
The building follows the form of the contour lines of the ground, as much as possible, in order to gain the most profitable orientation. The whole composition attempts to express the endless movement and vitality, which characterize its users, through an irregular order and fluidity, exempted from a static symmetry.
The main aim of functional design was the creation of a devious axe so as to be placed all the necessary classrooms, laboratories and spaces on either side. This axe can be also used to divide and connect the spaces of the building. The devious volume is the backbone and the connecting unit of the whole composition which imitates the shape of the block by creating and surrounding a central atrium at the same time. In that way the building forms a meander which flows into the block.
The existence of spaces which can be used by the local community, such as the school library and the multipurpose school room, enhance the social role of the educational building.
